Overview
Introduction: The Problem
“Have you ever been at City Campus between classes with only $10 left in your wallet and no money for a proper meal?”
Project Understanding
This proposal responds to a design brief from RMIT Student Life, aiming to support a new initiative that tackles student food insecurity through the creation of a low-cost, welcoming, student-centered grocery store and meal service at RMIT’s City Campus (Building 78).
The space will include:
A low-cost grocery section (pantry staples, snacks, ingredients)
A ready-to-eat meals area (rice bowls, curries, soups, etc.)
A free pantry shelf for students in need
The project will launch a pilot/MVP in Semester 2, with a full rollout in January 2026.
The primary aim is to make this food service not just functional, but emotionally engaging, culturally inclusive, and visually warm — a place where students feel respected, supported, and welcome.
