RMIT kiosk

A cross-disciplinary project combining game design, branding, architecture, interior design, and fine arts to create an engaging, culturally inclusive food kiosk experience.

Summary

Created a self-order kiosk for a multicultural campus food co-op to make meals affordable, fast, and inclusive for students.

Conducted user research, mapped IA & user flows, and built a high-fidelity interactive prototype covering browsing, ordering, payment, and feedback.

Outcome: An intuitive, time-saving interface that improves user satisfaction, reduces wait times, and streamlines the co-op’s service process.

Chinese Pin Yin vs.English Pronounciation:Pinyin serves as the first mental model for understanding letter-to-sound relationships. However, this model becomes a barrier when learning English. For instance, students may pronounce the English letter "i" as [i], or mispronounce "r" as a harsh Chinese retroflex. These patterns of interference result in persistent pronunciation errors and even hinder students’ confidence in speaking English。

Situation

RMIT students often skip meals or choose unhealthy options due to high food prices, limited cultural variety, and lack of inclusive spaces. This project aimed to design a food co-op that offers affordable, multicultural ready-to-eat meals and snacks.

task

My role was to design the user flow, information architecture, and UI/UX prototype for the co-op’s digital and physical experience, ensuring accessibility, affordability, and a sense of cultural belonging.

research

Conducted user research through interviews and surveys, identifying key pain points (price, convenience, cultural relevance).

User journeys and IA

Mapped user journeys and created a clear IA and user flow for ordering and feedback.

Design system

Built a design system with a component library (buttons, forms, modals, rating stars) and a consistent typography hierarchy to ensure scalability and visual coherence.
