RUN

As a visual and interaction designer, I focus on integrating natural elements into digital media to promote ecological awareness. My project uses MG animation, created with After Effects, to explore the seasonal evolution and interaction of plants and animals across spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Through the concept of "animation as ecological language," I translate natural forms and behaviors into dynamic visuals, aiming to build a vibrant narrative space. The work invites audiences to reimagine the connection between humans and nature and to appreciate the beauty of coexistence through motion design.

Overview

This motion graphics animation follows a character with black hair as they walk through the four seasons, surrounded by nature-inspired elements like flowers and grass. The character moves forward with curiosity and fulfillment, engaging with the changing environment. The animation emphasizes cyclical movement, showcasing the seamless transition between seasons and the passage of time. The minimalist and vibrant design enhances the sense of exploration and contentment. Through the character’s journey, the animation highlights the beauty of nature’s cycles and the satisfaction that comes from observing life’s continual flow.

Chinese Pin Yin vs.English Pronounciation:Pinyin serves as the first mental model for understanding letter-to-sound relationships. However, this model becomes a barrier when learning English. For instance, students may pronounce the English letter "i" as [i], or mispronounce "r" as a harsh Chinese retroflex. These patterns of interference result in persistent pronunciation errors and even hinder students’ confidence in speaking English。

Original intention of
topic selection

I chose "spring, summer, autumn, and winter" as the theme because seasonal change best reflects nature’s rhythm and cycle. The growth of plants, animal behavior, and ecosystem shifts all embody natural wisdom. Through character design and MG animation, I aim to move beyond static nature education by using vivid visuals and rhythmic storytelling to spark curiosity about nature’s details. I believe design is not just creation, but a meaningful bridge between humans and the natural world.

Concept and theme

This animation project explores the four seasons through the depiction of typical plants, animals, and scenes.
The conclusion drawn from this exploration is the decision to use plants as character designs in it.

Storyboard

This storyboard outlines an animation where a plant-based character moves through the four seasons, interacting with nature.

It highlights the passage of time and cyclical growth, with scenes designed to convey curiosity, change, and fulfillment in a seamless, visually engaging manner.

Sequence of actions

The plant-based character appears, walking through a vibrant landscape as the seasons change.

Visual elements

he animation features a plant-based character moving through distinct seasonal landscapes, with vibrant colors and nature elements like flowers, grass, and animals.
Smooth transitions between seasons symbolize growth and the cyclical nature of life, using natural tones to emphasize each season’s unique beauty.

Key animation

Key frames include the plant-based character’s journey through spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season transitions smoothly with blooming flowers, lively animals, falling leaves, and snow.
The final frame returns to spring, emphasizing the cyclical nature of life and the character’s continuous journey.

Character Design

In this project, I abstract the animals and plants encountered in the four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—into unique character designs. Each character captures the essential qualities, colors, and behaviors of seasonal species, such as the blooming energy of spring flowers, the vibrant motion of summer insects, the fading tones of autumn leaves, and the quiet stillness of winter creatures.

These designs are not literal depictions, but stylized interpretations that reflect the spirit and rhythm of nature through visual metaphors. Once the characters are finalized, I use Adobe After Effects to animate them, drawing keyframes that emphasize their interaction with the seasonal environment. The result is a dynamic MG animation that tells a silent story of life cycles, transformation, and harmony. Through this work, I aim to invite the audience to see the natural world from a new perspective—one that is playful, emotional, and rooted in ecological awareness.

Overall Flow

The overflow scene in the animation visually represents the transition between key moments or the climax of the storyline. This scene adds depth by using dynamic visuals, ensuring a smooth progression while maintaining the overall theme of growth and change throughout the seasons.
